Windows 10 and EG
I wonder is anyone else is having problems saving an event ghost tree with the new windows 10 install. It tells me I don't have permission, even tried restart eg and running as admin. I am an admin on the machine. Thanks.

I just installed win10 and had the exact same issue. I knew that Win10 was going to have a much stronger permissions, but could not believe things like this would happen.
I fixed it by taking ownership of the Program Files x86 directory. This not only solved EG issues, but other programs as well. If you want to do this just google it. I also turned off UAC even before installing EG and that did not help.
This should be considered a bug, as EG needs to be considered a "TrustedInstaller" for its own directory. This makes it an installation issue.

It was also this in Windows 8.
From MS Windows point of view the eg tree xml should go in %appdata%.
Changing permissions of the Program Files x86 directory can also break the Windows Store.
I run EG with the "Run as administrator" option at startup with a bat file, this gets around most of the UAC and permission issues but I have the eg tree under c:\.
Being an admin account is not the same as run as administrator.

I've seemed to have figured it out myself before reading the replies. I'm not sure why but it works fine if you save it with the .xml extension typed. I guess we will have to go "old school" for a while. I'll follow this post to see if an update ever comes from this.
