New user with small issues

First off, great program! :) I was using an old ATI Remote Wonder with software that was not supported anymore, so finding this made me finally get around to integrating my Harmony 500 with my HTPC.

Right now I'm using Meedio as a front-end for my HTPC. I'm using Event Ghost to translate IR commands from the Harmony via a USB-UIRT to keyboard commands to control Meedio (as well as couple of supporting programs like VLC). The trouble is that it doesn't work 100% of the time. Sometimes I have to press a button multiple times to get the command to send. I see the USB-UIRT flashing each time I press the button, though, so I'm assuming its something in my setup. As I'm new to Event Ghost, I figure I have done something wrong.

I setup a Keyboard Emulation folder in the Context Folder, then created Macros for each command. Under these Macros I specified the keyboard command and the IR command. Here's a small screenshot:

So, is this how one would normally configure the remote to work with keyboard commands, or do I need to change it up a little?

Does it seem to effect the same buttons every time?

2nd part it looks like you did everything right assuming you want keyboard commands. Also windows focus can cause those commands to not be sent to the correct application. I think is is probably obvious for you though, you did good setting that up.

If a plugin existed you could use direct access to the application.

You might demo SageTV, a plugin exists and it works very well.

Yep, specifically the PLAY/PAUSE buttons, and maybe a couple more I can't think of off-hand.

Reprogram those buttons to some other IR code and relearn in EG.

If you have candles, a plasma or CF lighting it can effect both the use and learning of IR.

Learn you codes in the dark. :D

One issue I have with my USB-UIRT and I assume with any IR receiver is some remotes don't always send the same code each time a key is pressed. Some just seem random such as with my projector remote and some may send a different code depending on the length of the key press. I have also seen some that when the "Generate Legacy Compatible Events" option is check there a couple of different codes sent on the press and a couple on the release.

I searched for hours trying to program my universal remote where most of the key presses were consistent. Some still have 3 to 5 different codes so I just added them all to the macro.

For events I use keystrokes on I add the "Find Window" and "Bring Window To Front" actions first. Then you can be sure the keys are sent to the correct window.

Also, in the Log pane, can you see EventGhost logging your USB-UIRT events, and sending the associated action?

Good luck.
