ATTN: USB-UIRT owns: UIRT + EG = good solution?

Title half-assedly says it all.

I'm considering ordering a USD-UIRT to control my (future) Samsung LED HDTV with EG. I've read that users have had issues with it.
For the users who own the device and use EG plugins to control it, how do you guys like it overall? Does it work well? Have 'those' issues been resolved that you faced?

I've been very happy with it and have had very few issues and I use it constantly. The only issue I've had is with the repeat code that's in the bugs section of the forums now and it's not a big deal.

I haven't ever used any other receivers to compare to but that's just because this one hasn't given me any reason to look at others. I highly recommend it.

If possible get the zoned emitters when you order, just save you tie when you decide you need multiple zones.

You can control just about anything that can be controlled via IR.

I control my surround sound reciever, DVD changer and soon CCTV server with it.

Zoned emitter is 2 emitters with a Y connection but the emitters are independent.
IE
Left channel = Zone1
Right channel = Zone2

I say Right channel and Left channel as the emitter connection is a normal stereo headphone jack.

You can also just cut the wire from a pair of headphones and add emitters to it for the same effect.

This way you can control 2 identical devices, say you bought another TV like your new one for the bedroom. You would put the living room TV on Zone1 and the bedroom TV on Zone2. You can now control each independently of the other, with a single zone output this would not be possible unless the devices had dip switch settings for their IR code based. Most do not.

You could also consider a Tira 2 from http://www.home-electro.com. Great guys to deal with. Got mine within a few days through the mail. Similar to a USB-UIRT but I purchased the OEM version that is just the circuit board and is meant to mount inside a case. I put it inside behind my case window and it's working perfectly for me.

Not really sure of your whole system but it works perfectly in my application hiding inside the case without having a remote dongle cluttering things up.

EG and USB-UIRT run great together. Been using them for over a year and I love them. Thge only issue I had, and I found this the hard way, is that EG cannot deal with 2 USB-UIRT modules at the same time (I had bought a second UIRT hoping to be able to control my PC from downstairs and upstairs bit it does not recognize the second USB-UIRT so I bought it for nothing).

It would be possible to support multiple USB-UIRTs with EG. But since I have no second device to test it, I never implemented it. Try to contact the USB-UIRT support per email and request the "renaming utility". Once you got it, post it to me, since I lost mine. Then we can see how to modify the plugin for multiple devices.

Ok, and here is an updated version (0.3.6.1438)

To make your second USB-UIRT work:

1. Exit EG
2. Disconnect all USB-UIRTs except the one you want to rename
3. Start the utility above and rename your device to number 2
4. Disconnect this second USB-UIRT also and after that reconnect all USB-UIRTs
5. Start EG and add a second USB-UIRT plugin instance.

That's it.

Are there any inherent advantages to getting the Tira 2? This is the first I've heard of it. My thinking is that the USB-UIRT is 'better' since it has a lot more user suppot (read: EG forum users ) behind it. Nonetheless, I am interested in the Tira 2.

I used the Tira2 OEM because I could mount it inside the case behind the front window. The Tira2 works perfectly for me so I'm not hesitant to recommend using one.

Mounting a USBUIRT internally would be much more difficult.

You can dismantle the USB-UIRT too, if you need to. The case is screwed together.
