Remote not working after sleep...

Post by skrammel »

Hi

I have a problem with my remote not working after computer has come out from sleep mode. It's a Terratec T5 USB tuner which has built in remote support, running under Eventghost as "Generic HID" - sending HID.ButtomXXX events. In Device manager, it shows up as 2 units, Terratec T5 and under that Terratec IR.

The tuner works fine after system resumes, and there are no entries in windows event log or eventghost log to suggest anything is wrong. Device manager shows both entries working fine.

Sometimes, I can turn on "Use the device with index" and then increase the number, and be lucky to make it work again this way. Interestingly, if I disconnect the tuner and reconnect it, the original remote software for it will work again, but not in eventghost. Every once in a while, Eventghost will say "multiple devices found, don't know which one to use" - but only seldomly.

Running windows 7 32bit, Intel DH57JG and Intel Core i3. It used to work just fine on the same OS on an ION+Atom machine...

Tried to do a reconnect script with devcon, but it insists on restarting system after disconnecting, so not much use there...

I can actually wake the PC from sleep with the remote itself, so it remains powered alright during sleep...

Any advice ?

Thanks :)

Have you tried if disabling the generic hid plugin before hibernation and then re-enabling it afterward helps with this issue? If it does you can use the "disable" and "enable" actions to do this for you using the appropriate system.* events as triggers.

do you see either of the 2 items below in your device manager???
Untitled.jpg
if so you should be using the MCE remote plugin for win Vista/7

all depending on how the drivers are installed for the Tuner if it adds the remote IR receiver as a USB device . i had a similar issue and i would have to uninstall the drivers (not delete them and then do a scan for new hardware and it would start working again. it turned out to be something completely unreleated. it was the amd filter driver (from my video card drivers) causing the problem. when i removed the registry keys for the filter driver it stopped doing that. and it would only be when the computer went to sleep and i woke it up

took me forever to nail down the cause of it. but it sounds so similar to my problem i thought i would mention it. and as far as EG goes and seeing multiple devices it could be because it doesn't see the other get removed (because it's stuck).

you can go to this webpage it's for a company called nirsoft they make all kinds of goodies that are free for debugging and fixing and diagnosing windows problems.
this one program will show you all of the usb drivers installed and give you the means to remove even all the ones that don't show in windows device manager

here is the direct link to the 32 bit download

question tho why windows 7 32? with a core i3??
