shit my explanation seems hard to understand when i read it, i hope you understand what i mean,

im think im loosing it on this one, it seems hard to get it to work.

what brand is your modem...

and also i could slap something together for ya right quick that would say... try to load a webpage. or make a dns query. i don't know if this would work or not. i suspect it would. but have the plugin get your local IP and then do something to that IP address. you could enable port forwarding on your modem/router to allow the plugin to bounce something back to it's self.

i have never tried bouncing something back to my public IP if the internet is out. i don't know how the internal router's function. or if the request goes all the way out and then back in again.

if using something like a dynamic dns name then i know it would work.

thank you for your help.

i have tried your suggestions but i still get problems, is it possible to increase the pingtime even more? i think 5000ms is maxium.

The problem is that i get more than one ping dead action, and that wont work because that action will force the modem to reboot again and im in a loop.

heres a peice of the log from eventghost.

14:49:14 TellStickDuo.modem.OFF u"selflearning-switch:nexa.90.0"
14:49:14 Ping.pingdead
14:49:22 TellStickDuo.modem.ON u"selflearning-switch:nexa.90.0"

14:50:30 Ping.pingdead

14:51:36 Ping.pingalive
14:51:36 Ping.pingalive
14:51:41 Ping.pingdead
14:51:45 Ping.pingalive

as you can see in the beginnig of the log i turn the nexa switch of, and i get the pingdead, then i turn the switch on and i get one more pingdead.

and then when the connection is made i get 2 pingalive followed by a pingdead, and that will cause a reboot again.

do you have any solution?

thanks.

Is there a way or plugin that could ignore the two last ping.dead, so just the first ping.dead come thought.

Thanks

well that router has a beautiful telnet port on it that's available to use for control.

like a reboot function.

wonderful.

so no need to use the zwave means to cut power to the thing.

i will have to do some more looking but i bet i can have the thing just update the lease for it's IP to check for an internet connection because if there isn't one it will do one of 2 things. set it's self to an APIPA address or 0.0.0.0

and that's an indicator of loss of internet.

going to have to do more reading on the telnet commands for the thing

i was going to get my translator ready but thankfully they have all the docs in english

and this is going to be a trial and error to make this plugin for ya because i do not own one of these routers. and sometimes the api doesn't include all of the information needed to control the thing.

so what i am going to do is make something to just write the information from the telnet port into the EG log and you can copy and paste that to me. and step by step i can add the different commands.

i need to get markers from the router output so the plugin can respond correctly.

i will have the core of the plugin done in a couple of hours and set up so i can add the commands pretty easily.

the config dialog is going to just need a username and password to access the thing. i will have the plugin pull the default gateway from the computer running eventghost and it will use that to connect to. and if there is a problem it will notify you there is a problem, in the plugin config there will be a spot that you will be able to enter the ip of the router. i want to have it auto populate that information. but if it's wrong to allow you to change it.

http://portforward.com/default_username ... icolor.htm

above is a list of knows admin passwords and usernames of the different routers.

i need to know the model number of the one you have. and also the username and password. and i think maybe the best path to take would be to have you download a telnet application. PUTTY is a great application for this and test and make sure you can connect via telnet and also login to the thing.

when you get me the model number i can provide more specific information

i really apreciate your help, i forgot to say that my technicolor router is in bridged mode, so it just acts as a modem, it is impossible to surf into the modem.

i think i solved the problem using the ping plugin, i tried it one more time, and suddenly i worked. i dont knoe ehat happend, but it works now

thank you everyone for the help

even if it is in bridged mode it can be accessed, you would have to connect port 4 on the modem to the lan side of your router. then set up a second IP address on your PC network card one that is in the same subnet as port 4 of the modem. and now you can connect to it

just in case the ping plugin doesn't work

Hi!

i managed to get it working with this guide, it works very well i must say, but this eggtimer fills the log on the left in eventghost, is it possible to turn the notifications of?
i really dont need to log these events since there happening every 15sec.

and do you know if this takes power from eventghost, i mean could other tasks that evenghost must handle be slowed down?

No, not without modifying all involved plugins. It is just events and the name of this application is....EventGhost

I do not think so since everything used is really light weight, fast and using threads. Should not be causing any significant load.

As mentioned, you can change from checking every 15 second to a longer time period

There are two timing settings that needs to be matched if you change them:

- one is the 15 seconds timer
- the second is the 1 minute for the reset router timer

If you change one, you must most likely also change the second one that always needs to be longer. So if the first is 60 seconds, you could set the second to 80 seconds or so

Did you ever try to increase the setting "Number of successive unsuccessfull ping to fire the dead event" ?

yes i tried to change that, so as for now the settings are for alive event is set to 1 and dead is set to 12.

another thing i have noticed is that even if the internet seems down the ping goes trough anyway, someone told me that it might be that the dns is down, and the connection is still up, i think that is our main problem here at our house, the site i send the ping to is google.com.

when that happen the whole house looses the internet connection, but its still possible to ping google, and the reboot wont happen.

Im sorry to bother you again, but i cant really let this go until it works perfekt.

i will try to explain as good as i can.

the whole compilation seems to work but i have tried to do it like this, my modem is ofcourse connected to a nexa switch, if i switch it off and on , to simulate a drop in the internet, the modem looses the connection and evenghost will after some minutes restart the router thanks to your guide, but i have tried to do it like this instead, if i switch the nexa switch to just of, then it will ofcourse loose the internet connetion again, but then evenghost wont somehow switch it back on, it should do that when it cant send the MQTT message, but it wont restart , i dont know why. i just think that it would be nice if it works if lets say theres a power failjure, when the power returns, the nexa switches always automaticly is set to off.

i really hope you understand what i mean by this post, and i apreciate your help.
thank you.
